Requirements Review

Happy Holidays!

From the Seilevel family to yours, we want wish you happy holidays. And like any kid at the holidays, we thought it would be fun to gather around the fireplace, drink some eggnog and come up with our wish list for Santa.

We sat down to brainstorm a list of what we would like to see in our requirements projects today.

We left no time to think hard about it, which means our list probably represents the things that really are nagging at us most right now.

What's on your holiday wishlist?

Join in the fun and create your own requirements wish list this year on our message board.

All I want for the holidays...

  1. My business stakeholders to attend meetings to collaborate
  2. My team to use a requirements management tool
  3. My users to review the requirements I wrote
  4. My team to update the glossary
  5. My users to work in small groups instead of very  large groups
  6. My team to actually complete the traceability matrix
  7. My developers to read my requirements... and implement them
  8. My business owners to provide input
  9. My users to help me scope control
  10. 3 more wishes

Blog Hit of the "Season"

A Holiday Medley

'Tis the season for a little holiday fun around our office. And with it, back by popular demand, we have created a few new songs to celebrate the 2007 holiday season. If you love this, you can see last year's holiday songs at requirements.seilevel.com/blog.

Let it Go
Oh the product release is frightful,
But our status is so delightful,
And since there’s no need for woe,
Let It Go! Let It Go! Let It Go!

It doesn't show signs of breaking,
And we've got no time for taking,
The risks are looking to be low,
Let It Go! Let It Go! Let It Go!

When we finally reach midnight,
We’ll watch as our fancy product goes
And then we will all sit real tight,
To see how our new release glows

Now the rush is slowly dying,
And the team can start good-bying,
And together we sing real slow,
Let It Go! Let It Go! Let It Go!

Do You Hear What I Hear?
Said the user to the BA
Do you see what I see
Over on my screen, BA
Do you see what I see
A task, a task
I must do each day
It’s important to do this way
It’s important to do this way

Said the BA to the developer
Do you hear what I hear
From the SRS, developer
Do you hear what I hear
A doc, a doc
Represents the needs
With a voice as big as the SME
With a voice as big as the SME

Said the developer to the great tester
Do you know what I know
Within your cube walls, great tester
Do you know what I know
A SME, a SME
With requests so bold
Let us show him it works as told
Let us show him it works as told

Said the tester to users everywhere
Listen to what I say
Have some patience, users everywhere
Listen to what I say
The code, the code
Released yet tonight
It will bring you lots of delight
It will bring you lots of delight

The team, the team
Pull together tight
We will bring you products just right

Hark the Herald BAs speak
Hark the herald BAs speak:
“Gathered features for the week!
Please let us keep scope creep mild
We and coders reconciled”

Joyful, the team’s alive
Join the triumph with high fives
Sung to the agile-ist tune
“Features are ready for the war room”

Hark! The herald BAs speak
“Gathered features for the week!”

Requirements Wonderland
Users speak, are you listening,
In their eyes, features glistening
A beautiful sight,
They’re happy tonight.
Walking in requirements wonderland

Gone away is the scope creep,
Here to stay is a new release
Nothing will go wrong,
As we go along,
Walking in requirements wonderland.

On the whiteboard we can build a strawman,
Then pretend that it is set in stone
They'll say: Are you crazy?
We'll say: No man,
But you can do the job
You’re not alone

Later on, we'll conspire,
To not cause a project fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we've made,
Walking in requirements wonderland.
